English Department Hosts Oratorical Contest
"Public speaking is the art of giving power to words — to influence, inspire and transform lives." — Dirish Mohan.
In line with the National Reading Month, the Zamboanga City High School (ZCHS) English Department conducted a student and teacher based Elocution Contest last November 25 & 27, 2019.
For the student category, Antonette Malabote of Grade 10 won first place, followed by Jose Lorenzo Esparaguerra of Grade 8, and Nicand Duhaylungsod of Grade 11. On the other hand, Mark Tuble of the Math Department, Sandralyn Martinez of the Filipino Department and Arvin Gerard Palicte of the Araling Panlipunan (ARPAN) Department clinched the first, second and third places respectively.
For each grade level and department, one representative was chosen to compete in the mentioned contest. Judging was based on persuasiveness and facial expressions, voice quality and mastery of the piece. Furthermore, Zamboanga City High School continues to give life to the art of public speaking with the help of the English Department and the support of the Secondary School Principal IV Dr. Lutchi Castello-Rimando.
Let us continue to nurture the skills and talents of every young learner and create the voices of the future keys to our nation's progress. (article by: Amina Brigette Handang / The LAMP)
